Plant description
Incineration line 2 was built in 1993 and is slowly reaching the end of its technical service life. The plan is to generally replace the line one-to-one with a substitute line (ErVeL2). However, the net energy efficiency is to be increased. A condensation stage in the scrubber with heat pump and additional heat recovery from the flue gases upstream of the stack are therefore planned. In order to be able to meet future, lower nitrogen oxide emissions, the SNCR process is being converted to a catalyst. As the scrubbers in Line 1 are the same age, the flue gas purification components will also be replaced here. A new hot water storage tank is planned on the district heating side. The extended preliminary project for ErVeL2 was finalised at the beginning of 2024. A referendum on the loan is planned for autumn 2024. If the decision is favourable, the project wll then be executed.
On September 2024, the Winterthur electorate approved the necessary loan. Construction is scheduled to start in 2026, with commissioning expected to take place in stages until 2031.
